THE TIME WE VOLUNTEERED FOR A TV SHOW
In late December we were contacted by the show's team. I was sick in bed with the flu. I had heard that Montel Williams and his crew of the #MilitaryMakeover TV show would be coming to Statesville in January because I read a post on facebook about it. When they contacted me I was super excited! We were asked to volunteer to make sure the home was spotless before it was presented to the homeowners. Of course I said yes!
I did not know the Bowman family. But I've given discounts to military families for house cleaning services. My dad is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served 30 years. I have many family members, including my grandfathers, aunts and uncles and cousins, who are and were veterans.
It wasn't easy to mobilize my team for that Saturday evening cleaning as we needed to arrive after 8pm which is not what my teams are used to. But the ones who volunteered to be put on the schedule that weekend, showed up ready and willing to help. I even had several friends willing to come out and volunteer their time which was awesome! Our staff are not just employees, they are like family. It didn't take long to complete our task. One of my team had an idea to create a basket of household cleaning items to leave the family, so I went to work and put that together. Show Host, Jennifer Bertrand, (shown in photo above) and her team were so sweet to us while we were there. What a great group of people making a difference in veterans' lives!
Thank you #MilitaryMakeover for allowing us to be a tiny part of this project. We are honored. Thank you Jared Bowman for your service to our country and sacrifices that you made.
